FAQs
Why a physical device?
We found that incorporating proximity was the most effective way to escape our distractions. Software solutions (such as Apple Screen Time limits) helped, but the "key" to unlock the distractions was always present, as you always had the option to bypass the limit. With a physical device, as long as you are not near it, the "key" is elsewhere, leaving you free from temptation. Users find the fridge (it's magnetic), desk, car, or key holder are good places for Brick.
How is this different than Apple's built-in tools?
Whether its Apple Focus Mode or Apple Screen Time Limits, you are able to bypass limits by simply pressing a button on your phone whenever you want. Brick ensures that you remain undistracted by requiring you to tap your physical Brick to unblock apps and notifications, making it all but impossible to bypass when you're away from the Brick.
What is included in the price of the Brick?
The price includes not only the physical Brick, but also access to the app functionality that pairs with the Brick. We do not require users to pay a subscription - once you have the Brick, you're good to use it!
Does Brick ship around the world?
Yes, Brick ships around the world! The majority of customers outside the US will pay duties and taxes at purchase. If you don't see taxes and duties duties prepaid, you may be responsible upon receive. Please reach out to hello@getbrick.app with any questions.
Will my phone work with Brick?
Brick is currently supported for iPhones running iOS 16.0 or later. We are working on Android and would love to keep you updated if you sign up here.
What happens if I lose my Brick?
Accidents happen - so we offer five Emergency Unbricks in the app that will automatically unblock all apps. If those are gone, deleting the app will unbrick your phone, but also will delete user modes and usage history. Reach out to us at hello@getbrick.app with any questions.
Do you have access to data regarding which apps I block?
Nope - all information about which apps you block, how long you block them for, etc. is currently stored only on your iPhone.
Can I use a single Brick with more than one iPhone?
Yes! There is currently no limit to the number of phones that can be used with a Brick device.
What apps can I choose to block? How do I block Safari?
Everything except Phone! Some native iPhone apps like Messages are set up to always be unlocked. You can block with the following:
1) Turn apps off in Always Allowed, which you can find by going to Settings -> Screen Time -> Always Allowed
2) If you're using the Brick Allowed list, use this guide for to block Safari (or any other app that is not blocking normally)
How do I Brick my phone without the device?
Simply hold down on the Brick button in the app for 5 seconds to Brick your phone from anywhere. You will still need the physical device to unbrick.
Can't I turn off Brick by deleting the app or turning off Screen Time settings?
Out of the box, these actions will turn off Brick and allow full access to the phone. We offer workarounds to create a more rigid Brick experience if users prefer. Turning on 'Strict Mode' by pressing on the three lines in the top right corner of the app and toggling Strict Mode on prevents deleting the app. Additionally, this guide can prevent access to Screen Time settings when bricked.
